Although the novel coronavirus outbreak is accelerating in many parts of the world, the situation remains unchanged in Canada. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, overall risk remains low for Canadians. Currently, no case of the novel coronavirus has been reported in Québec.
The risk to international travellers is generally low, but varies depending on destination. If you are planning on travelling during the March break, or in the near future, please consult the Government of Canada’s latest travel advisories. Before leaving for university-related travel, please read McGill’s pre-travel emergency preparedness checklist.
If you do travel, it is important to monitor your health when you return to Canada. Please consult McGill’s coronavirus page for the latest updates.
Regardless of travel plans, everyone is reminded to practice health precautions to further reduce risk of coronavirus transmission:
- Wash your hands often with soap under warm running water for at least 20 seconds;
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer only if soap and water are not available;
- When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your arm to reduce the spread of germs;
- If you use a tissue, dispose of it as soon as possible and wash your hands afterwards.
